I have heard it said that once a person goes to Africa and falls in love with its people and the place, s/he never really feels at home again. You never fully feel at home where ever else you come from and you never feel fully at home in Africa because you have family and friends back from your homeland. I feel that way. I am home in a lot of ways. But just as I feel when I am in the states, I don’t fully feel at home. But at least a part of me is deeply at peace and comforted by the feel of home. So as they say in Zambia, “Bwangi Africa!!” (Hello Africa). I am home at last… at least this part of me is home.
So. Many of you are probably wondering what happened to me! Well, we have been stuck in South Africa for a while. Initially most of us were slightly disappointed, wanting to get to Mozambique and our ministry sites. Well, God just simply had a different plan for us. In that time we
have had an awesome opportunity to rest and prepare for the next three
months. We all have this sense that God is going to do something new on
our Squad– both individually and corporately. So that is very exciting!
As for Tikvah, we will be going to the area of a city called Beira on the northeast part of
Mozambique. The town we will be in is called Dondo. And this is the
most information I’ve ever had before going into a country! We will be
working with an orphanage that is a branch of the ministry IRIS. We
will be tenting and living off of $4 a day (which is not enough in that
part of the world so we are bringing as much as we can with us from
South Africa) and our specific ministry and living conditions are
unclear.
We do know that it is not the safest place (which is why they sent
my team with the most “street savy” guys… so I’m pretty excited about
all the unknowns and all the opportunities we have been given to depend
on God. I have been praying a lot lately that God will give me
opportunity to depend on Him, and He is answering! So that’s great.) SO. Please pray for safety, provision and continued intimacy with God and with teammates.
We are also hoping to see the Holy Spirit move in ways we have yet to experience. We long to see people healed and set free as only Jesus can do in this world. So pray for victory and power to be poured out by the Holy Spirit. I feel as though God is birthing new gifts in me and I am very excited about that.
As another side note, if you are wanting to support missionaries in need, some of my squadmates are still in need of funds and will not be able to finish the Race without funding. So, I would deeply appreciate (as they and our entire Squad would) if you feel the Spirit lead you to give. These needs are: Noah and Kathy Zelvis, Amanda Hamilton, and Melissa Bets. Please pray about giving and if you have the ability to give, every single dollar counts. You can donate online on their blog pages which you can access through www.theworldrace.org, click on January 2009 Squad and find their names. Feel free to send them encouraging messages on their blogs as well as I am sure they would appreciate some random encouragment from the Body both near and afar.
Thanks
so much and i’d love to share more with you all when i get the chance.
Oh and i won’t have internet for a month. Thanks for everything! Grace
