I didn’t fully understand what I was stepping into when I said, “yes” to what God was calling me into last year when I set out on the 11-month adventure with the World Race.
I saw adventure, missions, loving others, serving others, dismissing my fears, seeing the world, and fulfilling the call of the great commission.
What I didn’t see coming? Well….
- The beautiful roller coaster of community living 24/7 with 6 other individuals
- Broken hearts
- Staring poverty in the face while often feeling helpless
- Discovering the Holy Spirit in new ways
- Pushing myself to be the greatest version of myself
- Discovering my worth and who I am in Christ
- Encouraging my network of friends and family back home
The World Race is a beautiful adventure.
The 11-month journey will break you and then build you up again better than before. The year abroad will teach you more about yourself than you ever thought you could learn. Past emotional hurts will be healed. Lifetime bonds and friendships will be formed with people all around the world. God will continue to show up time and time again proving how faithful He is.
Something I have heard over and over since I’ve been back is, “I wish I could do something like that.”
The truth? You can.
It’s certainly not easy, but you can make it happen.
I encourage every single person reading this to fulfill that call and tug on your heart believing that there is more to this life. There is so much more available to each and every one of us, but it’s a matter of stepping into the unknown to discover the truth and beauty in this world.
Does this mean the World Race is for you? Maybe. But the options are endless:
- Go on a 1-2 week mission trip with your church.
- Volunteer with a local cause
- Find a mentor
- Join a small group
- Break out of your comfort zone
- Support a missionary
- Get involved!
Life in America is a bubble. We’re comfortable, life is pretty good, and it’s what we know. Break that bubble. Choose adventure. Say yes. And live the life you’re called for.
