Growing up in the suburbs of DC, diversity is a normal part of every day life.
Shout out to Heritage High School….and emphasis on the "heritage".
But it wasn't just simply black and white in DC like I encountered while living in the South. There were so many different cultures and nationalities represented in the DC area, and I loved every minute of it.
As I have traveled across different cultures this past year, I've been hit pretty hard by the low tolerance of race, religion, and beliefs in other regions…especially most recently.
As soon as I landed in South Africa I noticed the effects of apartheid, the practice of segregation that was abolished a mere 20 years ago.
Now don't let me exaggerate, it's not like this everywhere and not everyone holds these views..but there have been times I felt like I moved backwards in time based on comments and situations I have been a part of.
Truth be told, I've found it rather appalling and it has broken my heart. South Africa has made tremendous strides, but many still have the mindset of racism to break from.
There is hope with the younger generation as they break this chain of thought.
Much like South Africa, there are still issues of racism in the United States that need to be circled in prayer. While this has been heavy on my heart I invite you to join me in prayer as we pray for The Lord to break these chains that bind the unjust practices and shallow mindset.
