I have been asking the Lord for a change of perspective and a heart check for a little over a week now. He was teaching me patience as I waited, but slowly and surely my heart has softened for the ministry I am doing.
This month we are working at an Adventures in Missions care point. Adventures in Missions is responsible for feeding over 7,000 Swaziland children through various care points across the country. We are working at a care point in Nsoko, Swaziland where we help feed the children Tuesday-Friday. Some children come by after school and some are too tiny for school so they hang around all day long.
To be honest, it has been difficult because us Racers don’t have much of a role at the care point. We just kind of hang around, which is why I needed a change of perspective.
Today I was told that 80% of children are sexually or physically abused at home.
Absolutely heartbreaking.
To make matters worse, we can see the abuse in their faces. The scares. The fear. The sadness.
So maybe I’m not cooking the food or doing a profound teaching, but the Lord has placed me in Nsoko, Swaziland at this specific care point for a reason.
And the reason is this: I have been given purpose and influence from the Lord that He can use to change someone’s life. Yet, it is up to me to steward this mission well. It is up to me to grasp the moments everyday that the Lord can use me in to bring freedom and hope and light.
Today I sat and held a sleeping baby, while I sang worship songs. She straight up passed out while eating and it was adorable and one of my favorite moments of the Race.
I held her because I don’t know if anyone holds her at home. I let her sleep because in my arms, she was safe. I prayed over her because I don’t know if anyone else ever has.
And that may not seem like much, but I believe that that was a good steward of my time and a good steward of my influence.
It might’ve taken me awhile, but the Lord’s grace and sovereignty has gotten me to the point with a good attitude and an overflowing heart.
So let’s not waste our influence and be a good steward of the influence God has given us for His Kingdom.
