What are some things you do in your morning that put you in routine? Maybe you wake up at a certain time everyday and eat breakfast, have your shower, brush your teeth all at specific times. What would happen if you would go out of that routine? Would your day be completely messed up? Would it be considered your “bad day”?
On the race you don’t have a “routine”. But that is something I truly miss! I am a very scheduled person but I am learning that being not so scheduled is okay, it’s just hard to train your body that. But I do need a morning routine no matter what to keep my sanity and to make me feel like I can start the day. The two things I need to do are have my devotions and a good workout! It sounds crazy but it actually made me feel overwhelmed if I couldn’t have those two things to start off my day.
This month has been extremely hard to get into my routine because we start teaching at 7am. So I have been trying to get up at 5:30am to get into my routine to start my day off right. But 5:30am is super early for me so it made it extra challenging. The first time I tried to get up to workout I almost fell asleep on the floor before starting pushups haha… It was bad…
Yesterday I was talking to a teammate about how waking up to workout so early in the morning is so challenging for me. As I was talking to her about it God spoke to me and said, “Discipline to become disciplined”. I felt my heart sink, as I knew discipline was going to be super hard. But then again when is it easy? I started looking into it more to find out what discipline really means. What is the definition of discipline? Well there are multiple definitions but the ones I found were:
One thing all these definitions have in common is the word training. You are unable to make yourself get into a routine unless you discipline or train yourself to act that way. Once you have a routine you are disciplined because you have trained your body that that’s what it’s going to do in the morning. Getting up at 5:30am is something I have to really work for; it’s something I have to beat my body to get into because it does suck. It takes a lot out of me and causes me to learn how to mentally control my emotions. I have to fight my thoughts to get out of bed to do devotions and a workout so I am able to improve and become disciplined.
I want to leave you with these 2 verses:
1 Corinthians 9:24-27- Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every man who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
In this verse they use the word training again. You have to train your body to do what you want it to do. You have to put mind over matter. You can’t just decide to do something and make it a routine. It will not come easily; you will need to beat your body until you make your body go into routine naturally. That’s when you know you are disciplined.
Hebrews 12:11- For the moment all discipline seems painful rather then pleasant, but alter yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
Discipline may seem really hard or painful rather then a good thing. But if you pursue you will produce peace and righteousness.
Discipline yourself into good habits so you can become disciplined!
God Bless,
Heidi
