This month Courageous Love’s ministry is called “Unsung Heroes” (UH). Our job is looking for new contacts in the country that the World Race could partner with in the future. Our team is the first team ever to do UH in El Salvador! And so far we have come in contact with approximately 20 new contacts!

Meeting contacts happens in so many interesting ways, but I have one cool story that I want to share.

After a long day playing at El Tunco Beach, we hopped on a SUPER crowded bus where half our team (including me) had to stand and hold on to the railings for stability and safety. My backpack was blocking the aisle and people were still trying to pass through so a woman offered to carry my bag for me. My first thought was, “this lady wants to steal my stuff, I am not giving her my backpack!”. She kept insisting, so I finally just gave her my backpack (besides, it was really heavy) and stood by her.

I struck up a conversation with her and learned that Dinora spoke English, and her and her husband were going into San Salvador to vote for the presidential election. She was so nice! She gave me a ring, some fruit for the team and also offered us water. We asked her if she was a Christian and she said she went to a church in San Salvador! She invited Courageous Love to spend the night at their company beach house and gave us her church’s contact information.

La Caplilla Central is the baptist church and I was quickly connected with the missions coordinator, Violeta, and arranged a meeting to visit.

La Capilla Central is a church, school and radio station that supports an all boys orphanage called “La Casa Hogar de El Alfarero,” located in the outskirts of San Salvador. We arranged for a visit the following week to meet the boys and see the property.

This place is paradise.

They have approximately 30 acres of beautiful land that was a gift from a missionary couple. There are 4 bungalows (2 still under construction), the orphanage, a soccer field, the pastors (the pastor is also their tutor) home, the big tower for their radio station, and some rooms where people stay that are attending their bible school. Its so peaceful, the property is so well maintained. Violeta mentioned that renting out the bungalows for retreats and for teams, is one of their only sources of income for the orphanage. San Martin is a city with more violence, so Casa Hogar tried to organize an after school program for all the neighborhood kids to do their homework and play but they didn’t have enough funding and they had to suspend the program.

This place is really special. I know God has a big plan for Casa Hogar and I am so excited for future World Race teams that get to serve at this ministry.

Every day, God shows me that there is hope and that everything is under control. Maybe not the way I planned it, but definitely always 10x better then I would of imagined. Dinora didn’t want to steal my backpack, and God had a plan for our meeting.
