so I went to visit my sister in panama and it was incredible. the first time I have been to Central America and I fell in love. with the beautiful babies. having to speak Spanish. the crazy fast driving but slow pace of life. chickens everywhere.
day one – went through the Panama Canal. I mean really went through it on a tug boat. UNREAL. we were inside the locks as it filled up. the captain was super rad and we had chats in spanglish about life love faith and how at the end of the day money doesn't make you happy.
after a couple days in the city, we rode the public transportation for 6 hours, where if you had personal space issues you got over it quick! a lady sat on my face for about 30 min but I couldn't complain because well I had a seat!
we stayed with a friend who had a "farm" meaning strategically planted trees and plants and some animals. outdoor kitchen and a pool yes please . took my friend lauren to the beach for the first time EVER. it was such a blast of course we all got sunburnt. a few days later we arrived in Santa Catalina where daisy, my sister, has been staying for the last six months. it was this fascinating clash of poverty, alcoholics, tourism and recycling yogis. it's a surf village so of course I loved it. we went kayaking, snorkeling, skim boarding and body surfing. and drank way too much coffee during our morning reads.
I learned a lot about how I can't save the world. I saw a lot of things that broke my heart and there was nothing I could immediately do to stop or fix it. but I was able to share the hope and love I have and know from Jesus. and that my friends is a humbling and incredible thing to be a part of this thing that's so much bigger than us. because when we cant make sense of what we see and don't feel like we are in control, were more in tune with reality because we find the need to cling to God who's always in control.
