Living Sacrifice. I have been learning more and more each day on this trip what that looks like. Jesus is our first and ultimate example of a living sacrifice. He gave his life for us and God raised Him from the dead. We are to give up our lives for a new life in Him when become Christians. I have learned a new connotation for living sacrifice here on the race. It comes from a group of women who have little in the way of worldly possessions.
They are rich beyond measure when it comes to love. They are the gogos that run the care points. These women give of themselves every day to care for these orphans. They come to the care points day in and day out to cook meals and give love to children who may have none. Many times, they take the children who are double orphans into their own homes. They come when they don’t feel good. They come when they don’t know where the food for the children will come from. They come when the need overwhelms their capabilities to give. They come faithfully and give faithfully. If you want to see what a living sacrifice looks like, come see these women.
Gaze into the eyes of the children they give to, and you will see why they do what they do. Look at the determination and lines on the gogos faces from a hard life. Then look closer at the love in their eyes. They don’t see their life as a sacrifice. They do it because they want to. Maybe the sweetest thing of all is when we get to hear the children sing songs about Jesus that the gogos have taught them. James 1:27 says, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” I don’t think I could have a clearer picture of that verse than these gogos. God has educated me here. He has shown me how to put living sacrifice into practice. I love how the more God teaches me, the more I realize I don’t know. Thank you Lord for your instruction. I can’t wait to learn more.
