“If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.” – Isaiah 58:10, ESV

Pour yourself out. The NIV says “spend yourselves.” The ASV says “draw out thy soul.”

When I read this passage a few days ago, I kept thinking of the places I pour myself out. I couldn’t help but wonder if I was doing it all wrong. The amount of energy I spend trying to make myself look a certain way. Or the way I spend my down time catching up on the latest and greatest health and fitness articles and watching Friday Night Lights on Netflix. Or mindlessly scrolling through my multiple social media news feeds. Or watching cats ride on vacuum cleaners. So, I’ve been asking myself for a few days this question: Am I pouring my first fruits, the best of me, into the work of my Heavenly Father?

Where are you pouring yourself out? What do you spend the best you have to offer on? To what/whom do you draw out everything from the depths of your being? Are you expending your energy and resources on temporary, worldly things, or are you giving of your first fruits to eternal Kingdom work?
