My team and I always have an adventure when grocery shopping for a week. I’ve learned it takes a lot of food to feed 7 adults for a week. From the grocery store we have to walk 2 blocks to the location of all the vans, then to the far side of the crazy bus lot to find our van to Timbutini. After about a 45 minute ride we walk 15-20 down a dirt road to get home. We’ve learned to take our backpacks and we bought large reusable bags to help us transport all the food. That food gets heavy after awhile, really it starts off heavy and gets heavier.
Today as we were checking out from grocery shopping and we had the reusable bags that the workers were putting all the food in and they were all wondering why we were using them. We said we had far to travel and they agreed after hearing where our home was. One of the managers said the bagger would take the groceries to the van for us. Talk about a blessing! Ok, it was also really awkward. Not only are we the only white people around, but somebody is also pushing a full grocery cart down the street for us.
Not only was it a blessing to have help with our groceries, but it was also a blessing to meet this worker who was helping us with a huge smile on his face (I can’t even pronounce his name, let alone spell it…sorry). Once in line for our van he asked us where we were working. We told him we were volunteers. He told us he wanted a better job, that’s why he was asking. We told him we didn’t know of any jobs because we are only volunteers, but we offered to pray for him. And pray we did, right there in the middle of the chaotic van lot. I’m believing that because he blessed us that God will bless him with a better job. So, I continue to pray for our new friend.
As Christians, many times we want to bless people, but we are hesitant when people want to bless us. We would rather give than receive which in many aspects is a wonderful thing. But if someone wants to bless you then you shouldn’t rob them of the opportunity. You can look for ways to bless them as well and pray that God will bless them.
