Good thing we are going to Africa otherwise I may not leave Israel. I love it so much here. I have really enjoyed getting to see the land of the Bible, hanging out with the people here, learning under our contact and learning about what the church is doing in Israel.
We are heading to Egypt tomorrow to see the pyramids and then taking a night flight to Kenya where we are going to be hanging out for a few days before heading on to Lira, Uganda where we will be doing all sorts of different work ranging from sports camps, to farming, to HIV/AIDS check ups for locals.
We will be working with Victory Outreach Ministries.
We are so excited about getting to Africa and to get out of Europe.
One of my favorite things about Israel is how incredibly different people look. There are literally people from all over the world here and so coming out of Europe for 4 months it has been good to finally not be in a homogeneous population for a while.
A girl on our squad that was in Jerusalem for a while said she found the Ethiopian church there. Good thing she told me about it after my day trip to Jerusalem or Tamica and I may have spent the whole day looking for it and trying to hang out with some Habesha.
I had a random deaf guy walk up to me in the store and start signing to me in hebrew signed language (at least I think that was what it was.) I tried to sign with him in ASL much like I try to talk to most people in English even when they don’t understand that either. It did not work and our interaction was short lived. It was fun though to see a part of the deaf community in Israel.
I did get to go back into Jerusalem for a day with Tamica. We spent a few hours in Yad Vashem (the holocaust museum) that was pretty intense. From there we went to the Garden Tomb a place they believe may be the tomb that Jesus was in. Then we went to the western (wailing) wall and prayed. It was a great day indeed.
Our house is the most amazing place in the world. I am greiving that we are leaving. Our back yard overlooks the Negev desert. So our view is among the most fantastic I have ever had.
I love Israel!! A lot, a lot.
And, I cannot wait until I get to come back here.
