Sorry for the overload of updates, but getting to the internet is proving to be harder than I thought it would be.
So, Sumbawanga~ a week in and I still love it, possibly more so than when we arrived and I couldn’t figure out why I felt at home.
Ministry here is pretty sweet. Right now some of my team is teaching computers and typing, some are teaching English, and Sarah and I have our own class of between 50-60 children that we’re teaching every morning =) We’re technically teaching English, but with that we’re re-teaching them how to pronounce words in English, as well as teaching letters, numbers, days of the week…all that fun stuff. I would guess our class ranges from about 3-8 years old. We meet outside of the church office, it’s kind of like a big front porch with a chalk board on the wall and a few benches. Throughout the class more children come by and sit in, some to learn and some to just see what’s going on. Next week we’ll begin construction on a house, from the foundation on up! Seriously, right now there is a rock perimeter for the foundation and that’s it…I’ll let ya know how much we get done. We also have church services 4 times a week- Sunday morning, Sunday night, Tuesday night, and Friday night. We’ll be preaching, playing guitar, and singing at all 4 every week. Some of us also went to dance practice this week, the church members are highly entertained by our attempts.
Other fun fact from this week:
I went to a soccer game with Kyle, Rukwa United is the team that practices beside our home and Kyle has been playing with them so we went to their game. Apparently they’re premier league and some of the best around. It was pretty fun, we ran in to them outside of the stadium (don’t get too excited, it’s an old stadium, awesome, concrete all the way around) and the coach took us in with the team. Not surprisingly we were the only mzungus (there aren’t too many around here) and as I realized about halfway through the game, I was also the only woman there! haha It was fun though and Rukwa United won!
I added this to the bottom of my other blog: I have until December 15th to raise another $3,200 for me to be fully funded!!! This is my final support goal and once again I have to make it to continue on, so if you could help me continue to get the word out that would be a huge blessing! If you are willing to do a fundraiser or have any fundraising ideas that I can do from here, let me know! I have very limited internet, but I’m willing to try whatever I can!
