ATL…Ask the Lord…a time to go before God and ask Him where He wants you to go and what He wants you to do. We set aside Thursday to do this as a team and it turned out to be an amazing experience! My team got together and spent some time in prayer and then came back together to talk about what God had laid on our hearts. Sometimes people have a specific place to go, a vision, or maybe just a word…God speaks in many different ways, so there’s no limitation!
During this time of prayer God laid on my heart “follow”. I kind of thought that it was ridiculous, I mean come on…here we are talking about going out and telling people about Jesus and all I can come up with is to follow? I just kept praying for God to confirm His words to me and I had this picture pop in my head of walking down an alley somewhere downtown and I was following a big group of people. I didn’t know exactly where this was or who I was following because I couldn’t make out any faces…just that I had complete peace and I was to follow them.
Our team came back together to try and piece together where God was calling us to go for the afternoon and I still felt silly telling them that God told me to follow, but I told them anyway and after everyone shared we headed towards downtown and decided to start at the park. When we arrived a few of my teammates immediately started talking to people. I walked around for a few minutes with Tom and Casey, but I just didn’t have a peace about being at the park. Every time that I saw one of the children God laid back on my heart that I wasn’t in the right place. I voiced this to Tom and Casey and they agreed to branch out with me and head downtown.
As we walked further downtown we talked about how unsure we were of where we were going and if we were even in the right place, and that’s when we met Qita. She asked us for a light for her cigarette, we said we didn’t have one and Casey asked her name. She speaks Romanian (and doesn’t understand any English) and we know a handful of words in Romanian…but we communicated nonetheless. We learned her name, that she was hungry and wanted money for food, and that she has a baby to feed. Her son’s name is David and when we asked about him she pointed in a general direction and said he was over there. Then she asked us to come meet him. My immediate thought was “yea, right…like I’m going to follow her somewhere” and within the 2 seconds that I had to think that God immediately laid on my heart, this is who I sent you for…follow. I was overcome with peace and love for this woman. We talked a short distance and then turned down an alley and I saw God’s promise come to light. The only difference in what was before my eyes and what I had seen earlier is that there was no big group for me to follow, it was one woman who lead us to a small baby laying on a piece of cardboard and another woman sitting beside him.
