Namaste! This month we are serving in Kathmandu, Nepal. It’s been a dream of mine to come to Nepal. I’m really not sure why but God put it on my heart to come here to do mission work a couple of years ago. Nepal is a country bustling with people at every corner. It is a very colorful and unique city but there’s a spiritual darkness that lingers here. The city is surrounded by the Himalaya mountain range which makes for a very picturesque view. Most days it’s too smoggy and dusty to breathe but there’s still something about it here that draws you in.
We are doing women’s ministry all this month. All the girls on our squad are together and the guys are doing something different. Our days involve teaching women English in the mornings and going out to local cabin restaurants and dance bars in the afternoons to help reach women who are being human trafficked. One day a week we also play soccer with street children and feed them lunch. This month has involved a lot of spiritual warfare and darkness. We would greatly appreciate prayer for health and protection over our entire squad. This is a different month than all the other months since Nepal is our first third world country of the race. We were a little spoiled in the previous months so this month has been a big adjustment.
This last week we went to cabin restaurants and dance bars to talk to and encourage the women working at these places. We also gave them gifts and the book of John from the bible. We talked to one woman at a cabin restaurant this past week (with a translator) and asked her what her dreams are for the future. She told us with her head facing the floor that she has no hope for any other work since she doesn’t have an education. It was very heartbreaking to hear but we were able to share with her about the hope we have in Jesus as believers. I know God is planting seeds in the hearts of the women we are ministering to this month. This month has definitely stirred in me a greater desire to help women learn a trade or receive an education so they don’t have to resort to this kind of work. Women and children in a lot of countries face many challenges and I want to speak up and help fight against these injustices. I know these things are close to the heart of the Father and I want to see His freedom come.
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all of those who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy”
-Proverbs 31:8-9
