Where is Your Heart?

We often find ourselves without even knowing in a place of contentment that relies on something else other than God. It’s a place where we become comfortable and dependent. Without even knowing it we place our heart into somewhere, something, or someone it does not belong to. We are blinded and then disappointed when we are not satisfied.  Satan takes enjoyment in knowing that our hearts are in this place. He takes it and uses it to destroy us because he knows in those moments we are weak. It is a place where we he can attack. He can use anything and everything to get at us. It is a place that unfortunately is often our default.
With in the first month of this race God began to reveal to me that my heart wasn’t in Guatemala, rather it was back home with my family and friends. As I brought this to the table in our Milk and Cookies time, my team just began to speak life and through their words God began to speak to me. He asked me where my heart should be. Is your heart with this world or with me? It seems like an easy answered question, but when that question is laid before you for the first time it is hard to honestly respond. We are so trained to place our heart in the things of this world and yet go on pretending like God is the owner of our hearts. The question began to rise within me and became something that for the past month I prayed God would begin to teach me.
He has taught me that we cannot give Him our hearts and give the extra to those around us. No! There is no extra. He wants our whole hearts. He wants to be the one who places desires and dreams in our hearts. He wants to be the one our heart longs for. He wants our heart to desire Him even more than our family and friends. If we place our hearts fully in His control He will take care of our Hearts desires, He will take care of our friends and family when we are away. He wants more for them than we can even imagine. He will direct your path and will give you desires and dreams.
As Christians we sometimes assume that because we proclaim to love Him that it could not possibly be true that our hearts are not fully His. The truth is that it is a daily surrender. As we awake each day we need to speak it out. We need to proclaim that He is the author of our heart. By proclaiming daily that He is the author of our heart, we will create an opening for Him to do as He wills. We will experience life to its fullest.
This isn’t to say that when we daily surrender our hearts that Satan won’t attack and we won’t have bad days. It does guarantee that in those bad days, those storms, we will much easier turn to Him and praise Him. We will find rest in Him. We will find comfort and dependence in Him. We will make it through the storms because He is the ultimate healer and will restore our heart.

Where is your Heart?

Is it in Him? Is He the one who you run to and tell about your hearts desires? Is He the first one who you share with when you are excited? Is He the first person you run to when the storm rolls in? Is He the one you go to when you find yourself frustrated? Is He the one you run to when you are lonely? Is He the one you run to when you are hurt? Is He the one that makes your heart beat faster?
