Unsung Hero (n.): ?Men and women who are dedicated to serving some of the most impoverished populationsin the world, yet rarely receive recognition for their dedication and service. These givers may also live with meager conditions but give consistently from an abundance of God’s love. Their names may not be in history books, their acts unknown to the rest of the world, while unrecognized, they shake a generation and move a culture and ultimately build the Kingdom.
Coming into Month 5, I was a little skeptical of what our ministry was ACTUALLY going to look like. I had heard that finding Unsung Heroes could either go really, really well.
Or it could be really, really challenging.
I wondered how we were even going to find ministries in Malaysia, where only 9.2% of the people in this country are Christians. I wondered if God was going to show up at all this month.
He did.
He allowed us to form relationships with 9 incredible ministries who are interested in partnering with the World Race in the future!
Praise Jesus!
Team New Heights knows that it was no accident that we were placed in Malaysia. God used each one of us and our gifts to play a part in what He had planned for this month.
What I really want to give God praise for is His use of the people at Kingdom City Church to teach me one of the greatest lessons that I will take home after this race. I’ve never witnessed a church love a group of people as well as they have loved my team this month. On the first Sunday we visited the church, we immediately felt like family. We felt like we had a home.
Being in college ministry for the last 4 years, one would think that I had grasped this concept of the Body of Christ. It should be easy to embrace new people with open arms and welcome them into the safe place that we’ve created in a ministry, or a church. But, to my knowledge, I have never made anyone feel that way. I’ve never volunteered to put 7 random people in my car, take them to lunch, AND pay for it. I’ve never been so genuine and loving to a complete stranger.
Gideon, thank you for showing me what it means to actually be intentional with people. We felt so special by your constant pursuit of a friendship with us.
Stephanie, thank you for your kindness. Praise the Lord for those sweet hugs of yours! They truly showed how much you love me.
Jaz, thank you for using your gift of photography to create special memories with us! You captured so many moments that I will forever cherish.
Pam, thank you for always being willing to chat. Your words and encouragement let me see how much you care about me!
Jon, thank you for inviting us to do street ministry. Because of those nights, I was able to see Christ working in Malaysia and in the lives of all of the friends we have made at Kingdom City.
Kingdom City, thank you for showing me what it looks like to let people in. You showed me how important it is to set aside my own desires and dig into the ways God could be using me at any moment. Because Jesus died on the cross for me and for you, we are able to love. I am capable of showing love to so many people each day, but I don’t. I am guilty of extending a surface level, I only want to get to know you at a distance kind of love. That’s not at all what we’re called to do. I don’t want to be the person who is only interested in new friendships when it’s convenient for me, but instead I will be the person who goes out of their way to make someone feel as loved as I have this month.
As much as it will break my heart to leave my sweet friends at Kingdom City, I know that I will always remember them because of what they taught me and how they challenged me to grow.
