“This is a joke, right?” This is the thought that crossed my mind when I received a heart breaking phone call from my sweet friend and squad mate, Jena Bea Haney.

Something that Adventures in Missions echoes is the concept of being flexible. Rolling with the punches is KEY to being a World Racer. I thought I had this “go with the flow” mentality. I was sure I had it. I was positive… Until I got that phone call.

JB: “Hey. Have you checked your email today… our route got changed.”

Me: “WHAT??? What countries got changed??”

When Jena Bea told me what countries had been changed I was devastated.

Devastated.

That sounds like such a dramatic word, but I was truly heartbroken. I was under the impression that my route was literally perfect. After going back and forth with God, trying to figure out if the Race was for me, it was September Route 4 that sold me!

3 countries in East Africa: YES! How could anyone turn those countries down?

5 countries in Asia: Well, of course!

3 countries in Central America: That’ll be beautiful!

I mean, come on… you’ve got to be CRAZY if you think September Route 4 isn’t great.

After going to South Africa last year I knew that I wanted to do ministry in other African countries. I also knew that I definitely didn’t want to go back to South Africa. I avoided all routes with South Africa… and I did that successfully.  I even got through training camp without a route change! Wooohooo! After Training Camp I felt like my perfect route was set in stone.

Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda, HERE I COME!

But it’s not that easy.

Of course. Nothing is ever THAT easy.

God has rerouted XSqaud and we will now be going to South Africa, Swaziland, and Mozambique instead of the coveted countries in East Africa. Accepting this news was hard, I didn’t want to believe it.

After talking to friends and squad mates I’ve realized that the World Race is still going to be great no matter where we go. Saying yes to Jesus is what this thing is all about!

Living a life dedicated to God means surrendering to Him and His plan… that means sacrificing countries that seemed SO good.

With all this said, I am saying ABSOLUTELY YES to Jesus and following Him to South Africa, Swaziland, and Mozambique! I know that God must have something big planned in those countries and I can’t wait to see what it could be!

I will be in these countries with an amazing group of women and I am so excited to share this time with them. Here's a picture of my team: Team Ratsah

These women are such a perfect example of what the body of Christ looks like. I am honored to serve alongside them as we proclaim the name of Jesus all across the nations!
