Last night, the Lord brought healing and forgiveness for all the daddy issues in our squad. I stood in awe as 20+ squadmates opened up about the heavy unforgiveness they had been holding toward their earthly fathers. They spoke of alcoholism, abuse, adultery, addictions, divorce, manipulation, and neglect. Over half of our squad had been deeply affected by the pain caused by their fathers. Then I watched as they released the burden to the Lord and allowed Him to fill that daddy-shaped void in their hearts.
Only the Lord could heal the brokenness caused by the messes of these fathers.
In that moment, my heart broke for these sons and daughters. Their perception of “father” has been perverted and corrupted in the most disgusting of ways.
Daddy,
Thank you for loving our family well. I know it hasn’t always been easy. I know temptations are there. Iknow the enemy wants to destroy our perception of our Heavenly Father by corrupting the hearts of our earthly ones. Thank you for being faithful to me, my sister, and my mom. Thank you for bringing me up with high standards. Thank you for setting an example of integrity for our family and others. Thank you for believing in me and for speaking life and encouragement over me. Thank you for sparing me of the mess that so many are dealing with. Please feel the weight of my gratitude for you, dad. Also know that you are forgiven for any mistakes that you did make. Know that I understand our Heavenly Father is the only one that could do this daddy thing perfectly, but you’ve done a dang good job.
