When I was 15, I went on a conquest to learn all I could about Rome and well…its conquests. When I was able to visit Italy in 2006 and explore Roma (its proper pronunciation), I was beyond delighted by its beauty. The people, architecture, history, food, and shear size of the ruins fascinated me and I look forward to the day that I return.
While I am in Romania this month, I have longed to catch a train and slip away and into western Europe…just for a few days…to this favored city of mine. This does not look remotely possible, so after a 14-hour bus ride from Bucharest to Cluj this past Sunday, I was able to tour around this ancient city with a few teammates and squadmates. After dropping off a few girls at a cute cafe, I took Jeanne's Canon(c) Rebel and set off with a few squadmates. We ended up in the main plaza, in the shadows of an ancient cathedral that reminded me of Notre Dame. After inspecting and circling this beautiful structure, I noticed an oddly encased area of the plaza. I neared it and smiled to see beautifully-preserved Roman pillars from centuries ago.
Even though the actual Roma may be out of reach this time around, I was excited to see some of this nation's remnants in this mountainous and ancient country.
