We’re All Slaves, Aren’t We?

Slave to approval

Slave to expectations

Slave to food

Slave to exercise

Slave to attention

Slave to success

Slave to image

Slave to the internet

Slave to social status

Slave to money

Slave to relationships

Slave to friendships

Slave to goals

Slave to dreams

Slave to music

Slave to art

Slave to materialism

Slave to thoughts

Slave to self

Slave to …

More and more, I have come to the realization that we are
all slaves.

For me, I may not be in a physical or sexual bondage like
the girls and women we minister to here in Phuket, but I am a slave to my
thoughts and perceptions.

There have been countless times that I have thought, “If
only I were skinnier…if only I were smarter…if only I were more accomplished…if
only I were wittier…if only I were faster…if only I were more coordinated…if
only I was ‘good enough’…if only I were musically talented…if only I were
wealthier…if only…I was a better writer…”

I am beginning to ‘take captive’ these thoughts and
perceptions that have controlled my life for far too long. But more than that,
I am beginning to give them up to God, Who only sees perfection when He sees
me.
