Today we arrived in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
It's not at all what I expected and of course, so much more.
As we were leaving Miami I looked out over the wing as the earth became smaller and smaller and the clouds became eye-level. In that moment I was overwhelmed with the fact that this will be mine and Justin's life for the next 11 months – maybe even longer if we are lucky.
I thought on this for the first part of the plane ride. I was reminded of a time when someone explained the passage where this promise from God is found in an interesting way. Essentially they said that He doesn't give us the desire of our "fleshly" heart but changes our desires to fit what He wants for us.
I am reading an awesome book right now by Bill Johnson and Kris Vallotton called "The Supernatural Ways of Royalty". In chapter 6 the story of Saul is talked about.
To make a long story short Saul is sent by his father to find his lost donkeys. Yes, his lost donkeys. Well, God had already told Samuel this was going to happen – that Saul would show up looking for these lost donkeys. When Samuel sees Saul God tells him that he will rule over His people. Samuel tells Saul and he Saul responds with a, "Me? YEAH RIGHT!" (1 Samuel 9:15-21)
What the authors highlight from this passage is the part where Samuel drops truth on Saul. Before he does he says, "I'm going to tell you what's on YOUR heart." But, Saul doesn't understand what that means – he doesn't know what Samuel is talking about.
This quote from the books sums it all up…
the greatness that was ALREADY INSIDE OF HIM."
You see, God doesn't have to change the desires of our heart. They were placed there from the beginning! Our desires and our destiny go hand-in-hand when we are walking and living in our true, God-created, beautiful selves.
So here is challenge to anyone who reads this blog:
Pray that God will show you your true self.
Pray that he will bring people into your life that will call out the greatness IN YOU.
Pray that you can walk with your desires and destiny skipping along beside you holding hands.
{Psalms 37:4}
