“The gift that keep on giving!”
It’s a marketing phrase that has been used by many products since it was first coined or trademarked in 1925. It’s been used for phonographs, subscription services, and even male enhancement drugs.
Because this phrase is so widely used, it was the first thing that came to mind when pondering what to write on Giving Tuesday. And I’ve come to the conclusion that the only gift that truly keeps on giving, is giving.
God gave man breath and then free will and then a savior and then a Spirit, and with that Spirit, more gifts.
In Romans 12 Paul explain that we (Christians) are all part of one body, but have different functions. Furthermore, he lists some of these “functions” or gifts. One of these gifts being giving.
6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
What this portion of Romans 12 reminds us is there are senders and there are sent. Without either, God’s love would not be able to reach the dark places of this world. Both are powerful and needed and bold. By giving money generously, those blessed with the gift of giving give to others who can then give in other ways such as: serving, teaching, leading, etc.
I write this post with a looming deadline.
I write this post in need of $2400 to begin my journey into the nations.
I write this post praying and knowing God will provide for me and this journey He has called me to.
I write this post praying as a person in the sent group, that my words will reach the eyes of the senders.
