You want me to WHAT?!?!
You know “that thing” that you’ve always known you were supposed to do but you kept saying “no that’s not for me” because of all the things that you knew you’d have to give up and all the uncertainty of what lies ahead and how are you possibly gonna get from here to there??
That’s what The World Race is for me, it’s “that thing”. That thing that I kept telling God, no, you couldn’t possibly want me to give up all this to go on an 11 month trip around the world. I know a year overseas seems like a long time, but sooner than later that year will be up and then what?! Why would You want me to give up EVERYTHING and not even know what I’d come back to?
I have a job at a place that people spend all year counting down the days on Facebook until they can be back here! I have a great vehicle that I’ve been workin my butt off to pay for, what now? My house is the most adorable little one bedroom cottage you’ll ever see (remodeled just for me) and it’s tied to my job. I’ve already moved a couple states away from my family. God, haven’t you asked me to forsake enough when I left my family 4 years ago and followed you here?? And now you want me to give up the people “You’ve” placed in my life that have become just like family to me! As if I don’t already have a hard enough time saying goodbye, you want me to ask everyone for money before I go too?!
That was how my conversations with God would go. And still, they continued…
Q: Are you sure this is what you want me to do?
A: I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, enduring afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 2 Timothy 4:1-5
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. Matthew 16:24-25
Q: Are you Positive this is the right thing to do?!
A: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9
Q: Are you sure I’m ready?
A: You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them to the Gentiles. But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. Matthew 10:18-20
Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say. Exodus 4:12
Q: Are you sure I’m gonna be able to get enough people to financially support me?
A: And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
After three years of unsettling questions, trials that have made me stronger, and a heart forever changed, I am once again being called, and this time I will answer that call with certainty knowing that this is where God wants me.
