Here in Malawi, I’m not Hannah, or a Racer, or even American. I’m simply Azungu, or white person! Haha To some it may be derogatory, but to me it’s a way to start conversations….to start relationships. Some of the children have truly never seen someone who’s just a little lighter brown than they are. It’s pretty great to see their reaction when the 5 of us come walking their way. It’s either terror or overzealous joy! Thankfully, it’s usually the latter.

Most importantly, here in Malawi, we’ve gotten to spread His word all over! We’re working with an organization called Harvesters International Ministry (HIM). They focus on training pastors [ f o r   F R E E ] so that they can be effective communicators of the Gospel. All of these student pastors have the opportunity to plant churches and disciple new Christians. It’s pretty great!

Our job here has been to go to the church plants and simply encourage the pastor and a few members. We’ve clapped our hands, sang choruses, danced, laughed, shared our stories, prayed, healed, and smiled–[all in  H I S  name!]

We’ve been truly blessed during our time here. Our host, Pastor Gama, and his LOVELY wife, Mama Rose, are the regional coordinators in Southern Malawi. (Aka he’s a “big dog” in HIM.) They have invited us in their homes, introduced us to their beautiful family, and have treated us like royalty. We can barely do things for ourselves! We love them to pieces!

Here in Malawi, we’ve had tons of opportunity to rest too! 2 of my teammates and I got sick….the “onset of malaria”, so said the doctor.
Not to worry, we’re totally better after about 4 days of prayers and a little medicine.

Durning my time of sickness, I was tired and weary. Truthfully, I was ready to throw in the towel, so I could go home to the comfort of my family and friends. The Race isn’t as easy as I thought it would be. I had to be reminded of who I serve and why I’m following this calling by a letter a friend of mine wrote for me. She reminded me that I am [we all are] the hands and feet of Jesus. We may be the only love that some of these people see. Whether we are physically clothing the naked or spiritually feeding the hungry, we are doing this all for Him..all for His kingdom. Why He chose someone as weak as me is beyond my understanding. But, thankfully through my weaknesses He is strong–so He is seen–not me.

Here in Malawi, the Lord is good.
