We are already over a month into South Africa meaning we are HALFWAY through the race! Where in the world has time gone? It has been crazy to think back to where I started on the race and then look at where I am now in my walk.
This month has been just Ces, Lyss and I living together. It has been different with the boys gone in Lesotho, but living in community with these two has been absolutely amazing. They are basically my sisters and I can’t imagine the race without them.
For ministry this past week we have been working at Global, a school that we volunteer at and help build. Today Lyss and I ventured down to the bakery to help our friend Lucas. A quick background on this bakery: It was formed almost 4 years ago when Lucas felt a calling to serve the older people in need. Victory, the church he, and all of us, attends asked him if he would open up a bakery to help serve. A kitchen was provided and now 4 out of 7 days of the week Lucas is there making bread and sometimes soup.
What makes this bakery extra special is that all of the loaves of bread are given away for FREE. Today after the loaves were made we got to go and deliver the loaves to local Creches, which are like little preschools. Also, I have no clue how to spell Creches, so if you look it up, I probably didn’t spell it right.
Ministry with Lucas is awesome because he is very, VERY passionate about everything he does. Whenever we went to hand out the bread we also got the chance to pray over everyone in the place. There is just something about the way he prays over people and constantly repeats, “and through the blood of Jesus…” makes you yearn to know the Lord more.
One thing I love about being here in South Africa is I feel like every person I come into contact is very passionate. No matter the subject, each individual is passionate about something. I know most people have a passion for something, but for some reason theirs seems to run deeper. Finding out what people’s passions are has been one of my favorite things here.
Since I have been gone, I have found many new passions. I now have a passion for people, reading, painting, and much more.
Side note:
One of my favorite moments of working with Lucas was when a little girl reached her arms out to me inside one of the creches. I picked her up and after I prayed for the group I started praying for her personally. As soon as I started doing so, she laid her head down on my shoulder. She was maybe 2 years old. We were only there for about 10 minutes, and in those 10 minutes we were able to build a connection that when I left she cried. Precious. Kids can really steal your heart in an instant.
