If you know me then you know that I love sunflowers.  They are so bright and happy and bring a smile to my face every time I see them.  I also think they are very symbolic of how I want my relationship with God to be.  As they grow and develop they follow the sun.  If you ever see a field of sunflowers they will all be facing the same direction, towards the sun.  Without the sun they wouldn’t survive.  I want to be just like these sunflowers always looking towards the Son and following him.  One of my favorite things about Romania and Moldova has been the sunflowers.  You will see miles and miles of sunflower fields here.

One day this month my team and I went to a near by forest with some of the local teenagers that we have been working with.  This forest was beautiful!  I spent some time alone with God just enjoying and thanking him for his creation when I noticed a lone sunflower in the middle of the woods.

I felt God speaking to me through that lone sunflower. He was telling me that I need to follow him wherever he leads, like sunflowers follow the sun, even if it means that I am the only one following him.  I need to be that lone sunflower, no matter the cost.  You see even though that sunflower was alone in the woods it was still beautiful, in fact it was more beautiful and meaningful alone than if it had been in a large field surrounded by hundreds of others.  When I am following God I am complete and beautiful in God’s eyes.
