The last week of our ATL (Ask the Lord) month, my team went to Thessaloniki, Greece. We saved up some of our “off days” so we could relax, have some fun, etc. But we also still got to do some ministry.
What ministry looked like:
I helped my teammate Allison with a project for part of “ministry” that week. She turned 23 and she wanted to do a “Week of Kindness” which you can read about here: Birthday Week. So one day her and I brought cold waters and her Polaroid printer to the White Tower (a popular tourist site). We passed out waters first. One girl we met was from England studying Modern Greek for the month. We just got to talk to her and share with her what we were doing and why–even if at first she was skeptical about why we were giving out free waters. Then when that was done we took pictures for people and printed them for them. We met people and families from Georgia (the country), from Germany, Belgium, France, and other places. One of my favorite groups we took a Polaroid for was three Americans. Two women and a man who who were friends. The man had just retired from being a pastor so it was so neat to talk to Christian Americans for a brief bit and tell them what we were up to.
Another night we did worship at a popular monument with “Free Prayer” signs.
We only had two people ask for prayer, but at the end of it we met two girls our age from New Zealand who were with YWAM. They were doing their outreach evangelism so we got to pray for boldness for them and then they prayed for the rest of our trip. You gotta love church family from around the world! That week I got to do a lot of fellowship with my squad. This month is a odd because normally we have an LDW or Debrief at the end of this month, but this month we didn’t. I was so sad that I probably wouldn’t be able to see anyone from my squad except my team for two months–but pretty much our whole squad ended up in Thessaloniki for some reason or another.
We also got to do some fun things!
One day we got to explore some old buildings. While we were doing that, we also go to go on a “pirate ship.” I also got to walk a lot and the water front (i.e. the Aegean Sea) which was especially beautiful at sunsets–there even was an umbrella sculpture.
