On the Race, footwear is a VERY important thing. You walk so much over all terrain: Sand, around rice fields, beaches, trails. You walk through many different locations: Villages, airports, cities, markets, universities. You walk for different reasons: Ministry (villages, prayer walks), adventure days, traveling. You walk for different periods of time: Sometimes 10 minutes to the food-mart for ice cream or sometimes for hours upon hours for ministry.

Protecting your feet is important since there is all manners of foreign objects on the ground. *danger!*

Also, having a good pair of sturdy shoes is important because when you walk for long periods of time or you are carrying a hefty pack, you need to have that good support.

Most Racers go with Chacos; however, my feet don’t like them (they’re too wide and long for them to fit comfortably).

So I went with Keens and I LOVE them! Here are a couple reasons why. 1. They are blue! (Always a perk for me). 2. They have an incredible base. 3. They are easy to slip off (handy when you are doing home visits). 4. They are a sandle so they breathe, BUT they have a covered toe. 5. They are just a good sturdy shoe, even IF they aren’t as cute as chacos. 6. IF I need to, I can still rock socks with them.

But this week, my Keens had another purpose.

My poor teamleader Becca saw a big spider earlier in the day and a teammate wasn’t able to kill it. Well, it reappeared in one of our bathrooms. Becca asked for SOMEONE to kill this spider so she could sleep–she hates spiders.

So, I decided to brave the task with my Keens as my aid.

Here’s what happened:

Here is how the conversation happened.

Here is the spider I had to kill.
