On the Race, ministry can be everywhere, all the time, in any moment. You learn to be interruptable when God has other plans.
My squad-mate Jacob and I got to experience this our last full day in Vietnam.
It was in the evening and we were having a one-on-one, talking about how our month was, etc. We had gotten dinner and smoothies, but it was so busy so we went to the park nearby so we good talk in peace. As we chatted on a park bench, a young man came up and asked if he could talk to us. He said each day he came to the park to practice his English for 30 minutes. So we started talking about where we were from, how old we are, what he did for a living, asked him about his family, etc. Eventually another man came up and stood nearby. It transitioned then to where I was talking to Original man since he was standing in front of me on my side of the park bench and Jacob was talking to the Second man who was standing near him.
Very soon after, a Third young man came up and started talking to us. This guy was so sweet. You can tell he knows God just by the peace and joy in his spirit. The Third man asked what we were doing in Vietnam and I said we were doing volunteer work. He asked why and I said because loving people is important to us (when you’re in a closed country, you have to be careful with how and when we speak about being a Christian). He asked out right if I was a Christian (in my head, I was like “Yes! A way in!”). I answered,” I am.” He said “I could tell.”
We quickly found out that the Second man was a Catholic, the Third man was a Catholic, and the Original man didn’t have any religious beliefs. So then Jacob started sharing about the Christian faith to the Original man and the Second man since and I continued talking to the Third man.
At the end of it, the Original man wanted to look more into what we believed and we got to encourage and love all three of them.
You never know what may happen in any given moment on the Race.
