Can I just say how thankful I am to God for a wonderful father? He’s been so supportive in encouraging me to do the World Race and helping me in the process. Heck, not only is my dad supportive with the World Race, but also with my relationship with God. I have heard that we can see our heavenly Father the way we see/have a relationship with our earthly fathers–and I’m really thankful the the one I have with my dad because I see how a relationship with God can and should look between a father and a daughter.
Anyways. So fundraising. Slow but sure that it is. For those of you who want to know, I am working for my dad in his construction business. It’s definitely great to be able to spend time with one of my family members in work since I’ll be gone for a year next year and so when I’m home, I can hang out with my mom as well as my brother and sister-in-law who live 20 minutes away.
Also, working for my dad has been great “training” for me for the World Race for so many reasons. For one, we have many early mornings getting up at 4:30 am, 5, or 6 to go work whether driving down to Arkansas to work restoring a home on the historical registry or a job in our home town (either way, you know you are getting up early when getting up at 7 is “sleeping in”).
Another aspect of training is normally the work is hard, physical work that normally means I get pretty dirty. Also…dealing with heat and humidity (meaning 90+ degrees and high humidity). Ugh. But it is interesting how your body adjusts to it (although mine still is–after a an early morning and 8 hours in the heat–I’m ready for an early bedtime!). This is great for 2 reasons. 1. I’m pushed to my physical limits and sometimes have to continue to push on. 2. Sometimes on the race I’m not always going to be able to shower after a long, hot day and I’ll be more okay with feeling growdy (or gross). Below are two pictures from work.
Another aspect is sometimes we don’t know what we are doing until the night before and even then the agenda for the day could change. Well, what’s the problem with that you ask? I am a planner. So I am learning to go even more with the flow and “playing things by ear” as the Gund family says.
Also, I want to mention that by the time the next 6 months are over (which WOW! the WR is coming up so fast!)m I will hopefully be able to put $3,000 of my own money towards fundraising.
So other fundraising info. I am still doing the Adopt-A-Number fundraiser. I have 10 numbers adopted right now (as seen below) and 90 waiting eagerly to still be adopted.
Now that I have T-shirts, I plan on doing a lot with that. With Adopt-A-Number or with general donations, if you donate at least $100 worth of numbers or donate at least $100, you will get a free t-shirt.
What do they look like you ask? Well, I’m glad you asked! I’m very excited for them!
Here’s the information you need about them:
They are $17 if I can hand deliver them and $20 if I need to ship it to you.
Sizes range from a S-3xl. However xxl and xxxl are $2 more.
If you want one (or many), I need size, amount, and shipping address. I will need your money first. I am asking for checks for these IF possible so that I can keep track of who’s paid me and who hasn’t.
Also, btw, Fund the Nations rocks!!
Also, as of right now I don’t have a specific time of getting them to you–it’s something I am working on with the company and I’m not sure how long I am running this fundraiser, but I am super excited! Also, the countries I am going to are highlighted on the world map.
Another little thing: I got these AWESOME fundraising cards! Check them out:
I love them. I used Vista-print and I bough 500 of them for $20. Now I can give them to people as I talk to them or whatever the situation may bring about.
Otherwise, I’m doing some old fashioned fundraising.
I have sent about 65 fundraising letters to personal friends and 15ish fundraising letters to churches. I’m also starting to text and call individuals.
My dad has also been encouraging me to be bold and ask close friends to donate. It is hard for me to an extent because I feel bad asking for money, but he keeps reminding me that those who donate are able to participate in ministry that way and the “worst” thing they could say is “no.” After talking to another wise friend, I have this still in my ears “If you don’t ask, the answer is always no.” I’m just so blessed with encouraging and wise people.
So yeah! Here’s a fundraising update! If you are at all interested in how you can help me fund-raise or help in any other way, please email me at [email protected]. I’d love to answer any questions. If you want me to come speak at your church, I’d also love to do that.
If you have already donated, thank you! You have no idea how much it means to me that you would support me in this.
The next blog coming soon will be more details about why I want to go on this if you have questions about that.
But until then, please pray for me and those going with me on this crazy journey of fundraising, planning, leaps of faith, and so much more. If you want specific prayer requests, also just let me know because I have many and I need prayer partners just as much as I need help financially.
This is God’s ministry and it needs to be bathed in as much prayer as possible. Sometimes I get so focused on the big and little planning details I forget the other even more important aspects: Such as this is God’s and He has great plans for His Kingdom here on Earth.
