It was Sunday night at about 8:30, we were in the middle of our Harry Potter movie marathon when our Squad Coordinator called. Tommy, Brooke and I stayed back in Tanzania while the rest of K-Squad went on to Ukraine without us. I was recovering from a nasty case of malaria and just the day before had a fever of 103.5 and body aches that radiated through my entire body, making my bones feel as though they were breaking. But I was better… my fever had broken and I was slowly gaining strength. In that moment Tommy asked the question that threw us for a loop, “You guys think you’d be up for leaving tonight?”
We’d been expecting our flight to be Monday or Tuesday night. Was I ready?
“Let’s do it.”
I was tired of laying in that bed, and frankly ready for Ukraine.
So we packed up our stuff and three hours later were at the airport. After a quick nap on the most uncomfortable airport bench ever, we boarded our 3:45am plane to Istanbul, Turkey. When we arrived in Istanbul we headed straight to the exit. We had four hours to see the city and we were going to take advantage of every second we could get. It had to be adrenaline that got me through the day on what little bit of stamina I had. We had an amazing afternoon getting a quick view of a beautiful city and eating one of the greatest creations ever: Schwarma!

We made it back to the airport right on time, breezed right through security and made a beeline straight to the Starbucks. I got my (not so) usual (anymore), a vanilla cappuccino and we headed to our gate. After a quick flight we finally arrived in Ukraine! We spent the night in an amazing place and spent the next morning with out new friend, Marina, seeing the city of Kyiv, Ukraine. It’s an amazing city full of life and history. There is ice cream and Espresso everywhere. I have to admit, I’m suffering from a bit of culture shock. Kyiv felt like a city in America. I even saw a GAP store! I love cities and it was refreshing to spend some time in a nice one before getting on our train to our home for the month.

Which is where I now find myself. We have this 16 hour train ride to Uzhhorod where we will rejoin our team. After a day or two of rest, I will start ministry at Nehemiah International, where I believe we will be teaching English! More information on that later!
All for His Glory,
Hannah
