Hii y’all okay small little disclaimer: I promise I made my video right before I left Nica but there was a problem with the song and YouTube and therefore it’s been jumpin hurdles to get it all up and runnin… I’m hopin that it’ll work just fine now! I hate that it’s taken so long to get up – but better late than never, yeah?
We are officially here in the Philippines for Month 3! What a crazy time just this past week has been. Travel day started on Halloween..how many people can say they have slept in a Nicaraguan airport on the most haunted day of the year? And just so y’all know, tile ain’t the best sleepin pad. But I reckon that’s part of the World Race righhhht?
Our first flight was to Atlanta with a 3 hour layover. My best friend drove to the airport so we could cram the past 50ish days into 20 minutes. It was surreal. She also brought me homemade cookies from my brother. I die. Syd, I’m SO HAPPY that I got to see your face and I’m so so thankful for you!
Then we flew to LA for an overnight layover and I got to spend the entire night with MY PARENTS! Oh, and it was daylight savings time so we gained an hour. And then our flight got delayed so we got an additional 5 hours to play on Sunday. It was such a present. God knew that a good ol dose of my momma and daddy was just what I needed. Y’all, thank you for the target trip and the Cheesecake Factory and for the words of wisdom that I didn’t realize I needed. I’m so blessed by y’all. THANK YOU.
We flew into Manila and stayed in Metro Manila for a few days. We Mall of Asia’d, got $7 massages at a 24 hour parlor, and splurged on goin to the movies. Yesterday we made our way to Cainta which is on the outskirts of Manila. Our ministry site is unbelievable. God has blessed my team this month and I’m so excited to dive right in! But before we really begin, I wanted to recap my time in Nicaragua!
11 Things I Learned in Nicaragua
- After completing the #2 thrill seeking bucket list rated by CNN activity…you feel pretty dirty and pretty awesome
- Avocados can grow the size of a human head
- Spanish class is still as frustratin as it was back in high school
- Nicaraguan birthday traditions involve smashin an egg over your head for every year you’ve been alive
- If you wear your hair down, little girls will braid it. If you wear your hair in a pony, little girls will braid it.
- I am capable of doin a pull up after 23 years!
- Playin king of the hill in the middle of a laguna durin a rain storm is a sure fire way to have fun
- Chiky s’mores
- It’s inevitable – you will get sick on the race. And it may happen to you when you go to the beach on your vacation and you will spend the entire first day inside and not in the sunshine
- Learned how to officially play a game of pool
- Ridin in the back of a truck is a lose lose for your hair. Can’t wear a hat..because it will fly off. Oops. Can’t wear it in a pony because you will get dreads. And then you will spend 15 minutes brushin it after 15 minutes of conditionin it.
