Lighthouse
Life pointed to the depths
Under the waves
Awaiting my final decent
Abismal caves
Dark creatures are lurking
No air to be found
My lungs are burning
The darkness is all around
No hope for my future
No memory of my past
How can I not remember
Things change so fast
Searching for a sign
Any sign of life
The pain in my chest
The piercing of a knife
Knowledge in my heart
Tells me theres more
Steadfast hope
Remains in my core
I see the surface
My legs fighting to reach it
My first gasp of air
His love allows me to receive it
I see the flicker
way off in the distance
A light sat high upon bricks
I still doubt the assurance
But I fight for life
Fight for a chance
Learning to follow the light
To break the darkness of night
My head above water
The waves start to calm
The storm is ending
By the power of His outstretched palm
I can see the light
It’s crystal clear
Gone away is the storm
And also my fear
I flail my arms
Swim hard as I can
Just to get closer
To the person I am
I reach the shore
The sun has risen
The depths within
Were only my internal prison
Standing before your sturdy bricks
Lights swirling above all
I see you everlasting endurance
I hear your call
Your strength shoots up
From the earth you stand strong
Stone upon stone
Your legacy long
Your mighty power
Stands high to guide
Although many will try
Your light they cannot hide
I have made it to freedom
I have survived the storm
The spirit inside me
Has newly been reborn
You are my finish line
My heart with forgiveness you douse
You are my new beginning
You are my lighthouse.
This writing was inspired by the truths I’ve found in Jesus and my own redemption story. I am so glad to finally find calm shores after my battle in the storm.
