Aaaand back to Western Civilization. Not the humanities class you take in college, the way of life. Yes, dear readers…Team Wrecking Ball has landed in Australia. Our third month is quickly underway! We arrived in Darwin yesterday after an overnight flight from Vietnam preceded by a cool day trip in Ho Chi Minh City.
It feels oddly similar to Florida, but with really cool accents. It’s “the wet” (aka rainy season) and we couldn’t be happier about it! Rain is welcome reprieve from the heat. Our base is amazing and we’re eating so healthy, I don’t even need peanut butter to supplement! Today while on kitchen duty, Carrie and I made a delightful BBQ lamb salad full of all kinds of healthy goodies. “Brekkie” each morning is real coffee and muesli and fruit! Ahh, the pleasure found in the small things.
Ministry this month is going to be UNBELIEVABLE! We are working at a place called Long Grass Mansion. It is an outreach to the Aboriginals who literally live in the long grass. They are such a unique people group! They are displaced within their own society. There are strongholds of alcoholism, drugs, violence, and shame. They come to Long Grass Mansion for food for their bodies and they leave with food for their souls. The ministry team we are working with are amazing people! They just pour out and pour out to these people. And God blesses their ministry and provides for them. From day one, we walked into “divine appointments” with the locals. One man in particular has my heart. We just kept finding our way back into conversation and eventually he shared his story with me. Why he’s here and what he’s running from (Darwin is known as the place people go to run away). My heart was bursting with the Father’s love for this man. He was old enough to be my dad, but God was using me to speak life into him! It makes no sense that God uses us in all of our weakness. But it just makes His power that much more obvious!! I cannot wait to see the things God has in store for us this month. It’s really started off with a bang.
I would like to ask people to commit to taking a day to pray for my team and our ministry here this month. We leave here April 3. Just post what day you’re taking on here.
Here’s how you can pray:
-freedom from shame
-that the Aboriginal people would know a love and acceptance they have never experienced
-that God would use the foolish things of the world to shame the wise and start a revival in the Long Grass!
-for covering for my team and the other team we are working with this month
-Team Wrecking Ball: Brittani, Michael, Charles, Sarah, Carrie
-Team Blue Sky- Chelsea Hughes, Chelsea Brunts, Cathy, Nicole, and Natasha
-for a sense of urgency and boldness in bringing the Gospel
As I write this, the song “Faint Not” is playing through my headphones. This one line in particular is playing on repeat in my head…
“it’s not that we don’t have the tools to go and break this yoke of slavery // we quit because it’s not easy fix and then forget that they are even there // we forget to care…”
We have what these people are desperate for. God has given us an abundance of blessing to take it to those in need! We have the tools, we just need to use them. So here we go, folks. Let’s make it happen.
