The house we were visiting couldn’t have been bigger than a one car garage. As we were ushered inside by Pastor Junior I noticed the dirt floor, the one bed, and the pile of mismatched cups and bowls. The children gathered around us as we stood around the father all smiles. As we talked to him we found out that he was not a Christian.. when we asked why he said it was simply because he did not clothes to wear to church. As we talked to him more we realized that both him and his wife were out of work, and that their children had not eaten anything that day. Pastor Junior told us that he tried to provide the basics for these families wether that be rice and beans or even a shirt and pants, but with him being in a similar situation he cannot always give to the families. As I watched the faces of this father and his children my heart began to break. I cannot even comprehend what some of these families go through on a daily basis, but in the end they praise God for everything that they have!

This man accepted Jesus that day, and as we prayed for him I could feel hope being restored. House after house that we visited that day revealed that same hope. No matter their circumstance they were praising God for all that they had, they believed that He was the healer, that He was their provider and their protector.

(Also the father showed up at church on sunday with a smile that could have lit up the night!)

When we returned to our house that night my heart hurt for everything that I have seen over these past 10 months. I have been to some pretty incredible places, and I have met some of the most amazing people along the way.
I pray that the people that I have met and the things that I have seen inspire me to keep my perspective on what is really important. I pray that this experience continues to turn my eyes toward God and to continually recognize that He is the supplier of all that I need.

Haiti has been incredible so far, and the love that these people have for the Lord is incredible. Praying that we say yes to everything God has for us this month!

I am so incredibly thankful for this extraordinary, ordinary life!

love,
Hanna
