We’ve been in Cambodia for over two weeks now, and today I have the chance to give you a proper introduction. It’s our day off, so we’ve made the two hour treck back to Phnom Penh. This means we have a few hours of civilization. We’ve even planned a dinner at KFC! High rollers, huh? Being in the city means the availability of good internet. I’m excited to be able to post pictures again. Allow me to give you a tour of our village.
Meet Vuthy. Vuthy is our contact this month. He’s a crazy 27 year old that keeps us entertained. He was born here in Toch Village but was raised by his aunt in Phnom Penh. He earned his living by driving a cart-taxi in the city. He was hired to drive around missionaries working with YWAM. Jesus rubbed off on him and he became a devoted follower. He moved back to the village because he considers it home, and because he felt called to minister to the people here. He teaches English lessons, music lessons, and leads a small church service in his home on Sundays. He has a vision to see 150 villagers come to know Jesus, as well as build an orphanage and school. His heart for these people is so encouraging.

Like I’ve said, we teach two English classes per day. One is for young children and the other is for youth. It’s been such a blessing to get to know all of the kids here. Some of the most beautiful children I’ve ever seen. They’re full of energy and they’re super funny. They enjoy tickle fights and getting their picture taken. Needless to say, I’ve taken plenty of pictures.
The youth are the future of this village. Almost all of the Christians here are young people, thanks to Vuthy’s class. They are so eager to learn from us, but we’re learning plenty from them. They always find reasons to laugh at us in good fun, whether it be our clothes or lack of cultural knowledge.
You now have the extreme privilage of being introduced to our pride and joy…our bath water! The current theory is that this organism-filled water is the source of the rash epidemic. Current question of the century: Bathe and itch, or be itch-free and not bathe in the triple digit heat? Many people have told me that they’re living vicariously through me. I have one request. Let me live vicariously through you as you enjoy a real shower today. Something positive has come from it, though. I’ve noticed that my skin is especially smoothe. I’m pretty sure it’s because the bacteria from the water eats all the dead skin away.
After spending time in ten different countries, I’ve seen just how true it is that soccer is the world’s sport. It’s been such a big deal in most of the places we’ve been. And the local kids always dominate. Every day the village kids gather to play a game or two.
Well, folks, there’s the short run-down of life this month. More stories to come!
