As you know, I have a very limited wardrobe. I brought five t-shirts with me that had sentimental value. I have my squad World Race shirt, my personal fund-raising WR shirt, my oldest Camp Sumatanga shirt, Alabama Outdoors, and my Auburn Band ’06 Under-Armour shirt. These shirts have been alternated through the year, but I’ve been favoring the Auburn Band shirt lately. It’s comfy, cool, and moisture-wicking. Perfect for the African heat.

If you’ve attended many Auburn football games at Jordan-Haire Stadium, you’re probably familiar with the “War Eagle moments” commercials. They’re cheesy, but you know you love them. Being on this trip has shown me how small the world really is. It seems like I have a “War Eagle” moment almost every country I travel to.

In Israel, we went to visit an art display that depicted the connection between the crucifixion and the Holocaust. It was at a man’s home…in a remote neighborhood. Our team of six was there, as well as a group of about twenty from America. I happened to be wearing my Auburn shirt. A man approached and told me that both of his children attended Auburn.

We’ve been staying at the Milimani Backpackers’ Hostel during our debrief here in Nairobi. The security guard stopped me the other day as we were exiting the gate. He glared at my shirt and wanted to know what “Auburn” was. I explained that it was a university…the best, as a matter of fact. He told me that he had an Auburn Athletics shirt, but he had no idea what it meant until now. Yesterday as we leaving, I noticed the security guard wasn’t wearing his usual fancy uniform. Instead, he was wearing a beautiful gray Auburn t-shirt.

WAR EAGLE!
