“The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world….are the ones who do.”
It’s hard to believe I’m actually embarking on an adventure as big as the World Race. 11 countries in 11 months?! I still haven’t been able to wrap my mind around the vastness of what this next year will entail. I’ve been called crazy for doing this, and there are some days that I believe it. However, it seems like God really enjoys using ordinary people with radical ideas of changing the world to be His hands and feet. My goal isn’t to win a Nobel Peace Prize. It’s not to be interviewed by Oprah when I return. My goal is to bring hope…to offer a smile…to share Christ with a spirit of love and equality, rather than pity. For me, changing just one life IS changing the world, and I’m crazy enough to believe we can do it.
SInce you’re hearing my dreams of world reformation, I suppose I should tell you a little about me. I’m 23 years old, and I was born and raised in the small town of Valley, Alabama. Don’t worry, no one else has heard of it either. My childhood was spent obsessively watching Wee Sing videos, eating cheese, performing in self written/directed/produced plays, building forts, and adopting any stray animals that got within a mile of our house. After high school, I moved twenty minutes down the road to attend Auburn University. I originally set my major as pre-nursing, but a call to ministry made me shift my focus and change my major to Human Development and Family Studies. God does a great job of messing up plans, doesn’t he? While at Auburn, I’ve been spiritually stretched, challenged, confronted, and reformed. I’ve been taught so many things, and I’m continually being molded.
Fun Facts
* I absolutely love working with children. They give me an excuse to act totally goofy and get away with it. I spend my summers working at Camp Sumatanga. It’s shown me how evident Jesus is in simplicity.
* I have a side job as an amateur magician.
* I really want a pet monkey…and if we encounter one on the race, I’ll probably hide it in my suitcase and bring it home.
* I’m working towards my black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Only one belt to go.
* It’s taken me over two hours to write this. I’m not good at describing myself!
