This past week has been one of those incredible weeks where you know the Lord had to have been there because there is no way it could have happened by merely humans.
I’ll start with last Saturday when we went out to door to door evangelize. Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of this method, but it was part of our ministry, so I set out with two ladies from the church and a squadmate. It was raining so nobody was standing outside their homes and no one was willing to come answer the door. We had been walking around for almost half an hour at this point and had spoken to no one until we met Jun Jun.
He was a little storefront owner, and he had an awning so we could stay dry. We simply said hello and started talking. One of the ladies we were with asked if we could share a little bit about Jesus with him because we were missionaries and had flown all the way across the world to do that. This to me felt awkward, but as I started talking, the Lord was speaking to me through the words I was saying. I talked about how I felt called to be exactly where I am and how I believed me talking to him was planned out by God long, long ago. I started getting all excited and passionate because I was simply talking about Jesus and all that He has done for me and for us.
After I got done talking, one of the ladies explained to him in his own language the Gospel and not long after he was praying to receive salvation. PRAISE THE LORD!!
Fast forward a few days and we are at a big event for college students that members of my squad have been planning all month. We arrived just in time for the big, main event at the end of the day. I walked into a gym, not very full of students. Throughout the day, many of the students had gone home because they were just not interested in spending an entire school day basically at a church camp. However, this did not stop the Lord from moving, in fact, I bet He touched more lives than He would of had there been a larger group.
They performed three skits one of which is Lifehouse. (If you haven’t seen it, YouTube it right now…its beautiful because it’s the Gospel.) I looked around through my own teary eyes and noticed there were lots and lots of teary eyes. This is what the Gospel does is make you cry tears of joy because of how much God loves us and what He has done for us. After a sermon given by another squad mate, he did an alter call for students to accept Christ and get prayed for by one of us. No one came up at first, but then all the sudden, they started coming up many at a time. I didn’t do an exact count, but I bet there were close to fifty students standing in the front of that room simply asking for Jesus. PRAISE THE LORD!!!
I have been in a really sweet spot with the Lord this last week by having those moments where I comprehend the smallest bit of the Gospel. I know the Gospel, the words of it and the history, but when my head and my heart connect, I am always overwhelmed by what was done for me and by how God is still moving in my life. I have cried many, many tears in the past week, but i choose these tears any day. These tears have been joyful tears, tears that can’t comprehend this Great Love that God has for us, thankful tears, tears for the goodness of God.
GOD. IS. GOOD. Gosh, He is so good. I’m so thankful for my time here in the Philippines. I’m thankful God can use all situations for His good. I’m sincerely thankful I was tenting in a beautiful field and playing basketball all month long, because those are two things that I love and help me to connect with the Lord more. I’m thankful for the people who cooked amazing food for us everyday. I’m thankful for the people we got to meet and have pointed me towards Christ. I’m also thankful, we still have three more days of big events where more and more people are going to know Christ.
Please pray for M Squad as we finish up these last few days. Pray for the Holy Spirit to be present and to move through this city, to speak through us, and that we lead with open hands to whatever Holy Spirit wants to do.
Growing up in a Methodist church, we always ended our service with these words:
“God is good all the time. All the time, God is good.”
Thank you Lord that was true then and will always remain true.
