You Might Be in Nicaragua If…
1. There are mosquitos and flies everywhere.
2. It’s Month 11 of the World Race…WHAT?!
3. You get to celebrate the 4th of July with all your firends in a canyon floating and cliff jumping.
4. Church is a casual 3 hours most times.
5. 5 AM prayer sessions on Saturdays exist and are just so lovely.
6. Volcano boarding is one of the coolest things in the entire world.
7. Your host family is the best family and are so sweet.
8. Your teammate has a birthday and gets an egg cracked on her head first thing in the morning.
9. The bilingual school is one of the coolest places ever to do ministry and just hang out.
10. Volleyball is a normalcy almost every night.
11. Volleyball consists of a string, lots of breaks because of cars, and a big groan when the ball goes over the wall.
12. Soccer Sundays are the absolute best kind.
13. You feel like you made it in the soccer world when you score a goal and a penalty kick in the same night…call me Messi.
14. The water cuts off at 8:30, so you better have your face washed and teeth brushed, or it isn’t going to happen.
15. The time of dinner is one of the greatest mysteries still waiting to be solved.
16. Ministry one day is going to the river and hanging out with all your new friends.
17. You start experiencing all of your “lasts” and it feels so weird.
18. God gives you the time and ability to spend a lot of time reflecting on all the goodness He has shown you over the last 11 months.
19. The back of the truck is your transportation, and it’s the best kind.
20. You get to celebrate your host mom coming home and officially being done with chemo.
21. Crossing the border turns into quite the fiasco with all our stuff getting soaking wet, having to find a bus and a taxi, and our trip taking at least double the time.
22. Your teammates freak out and wake up in the middle of the night because of a cat.
23. You will never stick gum under a chair ever ever ever because you spent two hours scraping the gum off the church chairs.
24. You have the most giant pizza of your entire life.
25. Your teammate buys cookie and brownie mix but none of the ingredients to actually make them.
26. Through a random family connection, you get to live in luxury in Leon for a couple of nights.
27. You pack your giant pack for the last time and head back to the USA for the first time in 11 months.
28. The mosquitos are so bad you put on bug spray every 5 minutes and still get eaten alive.
29. Final debrief happens and you wander how this time has come already.
30. You realize how good God is, has been, and will always be.
