I absolutely loved my time in this country and loved the people we worked with even more! I definitely hope to make it back to this place!!
You Might Be in Honduras If…
1. You have learned to not bust in the room belting a song because a baby might be sleeping.
2. You learn how to clean the Honduran way.
3. Interruptions come in the form of neighborhood jump roping, family soccer, and sweet babies.
4. Your teammates feed you cabbage and carrots the first night for dinner (they thought we were rabbits?!).
5. The night before music class (which you thought was 30 minutes), you find out you are teaching for 8 HOURS.
6. You become the local nutritionist team and teach the kids about how bad coke is for you right after you just drank a coke.
7. Your teammate tells children if they get diabetes they will either spend the rest of their lives in a bed or will go to heaven.
8. When your teammate tells that to the children, you and another teammate start uncontrollably laughing and CANNOT stop.
9. You machete a bee hive open.
10. You seek revenge on the bee hive with fire and gasoline.
11. Machetes take the place of weed eaters, hedge trimmers, axes and lawn mowers.
12. Your version of “watching” Game 7 of the NBA finals is hitting refresh on the score because that’s all the internet is capable of doing.
13. You fall in love with everyone you get to work with.
14. There are babies around you get to hold all the time.
15. You fall in love with all the kiddos you get to hang out with everyday.
16. There are SO. MANY. FLIES.
17. You try and teach math in Spanish, harder than you may think.
18. You have a Shania Twain jam session while doing the dishes.
19. Lunches are a big deal here and are absolutely delicious!!
20. Watching one of your host kill a massive wasp is almost like watching the Olympics.
21. Your hosts call you loca all month AKA crazy.
22. You do inventory for the clinic onsite and put some very interesting names of things you have no idea what they are called.
23. When it starts raining, that means it’s time for a soccer match in the backyard.
24. The local Mennonite store has the best food in the entire world.
25. You experience an earthquake while chilling on the couch.
26. Replanting banana trees becomes your team’s forte…we got pretty good.
27. You get to hike under a waterfall, and it’s one of the coolest things you’ve ever done.
28. You get to celebrate a golden birthday in “Paris” for the night and have an awesome dance party!
29. Your hosts bless you in the most incredible way by washing our feet and giving us pedicures.
30. You babysit the kids and the fun is a pile of mattresses and tackling each other.
31. You feed the kids you’re babysitting cupcakes right before sending them home.
32. You hold a kid’s camp with balloon animals, face painting, bible stories, and soccer matches…fun was had by all.
33. You cry when the coolest kids in the world leave and then again when we left.
