Before introducing my team, I want to tell you a little something.
After I got accepted to the race, I found out that the squad would be separated into smaller teams (varies between six to eight people) and you would be spending with that team for the first half of the race, sometimes the whole race. Teams can be an all-girls team or a co-ed team, or even a all-guys team.
After I had found out that information, I immediately told God that I wanted to be on a all-girls team. I was too stubborn to even think about being on a co-ed team. I prayed over and over about being on a all-girls team. Silly right?
Then up to a week before training camp, God gave me a vision in my dream. And in that vision, I was on a co-ed team doing work in Nepal. I woke up and started laughing. I started laughing because I had this feeling all along that God was going to say no to an all-girls team and challenge me by putting me on a co-ed team but I was too stubborn to even listen. I had prayed about it all week after I had that vision. The more I prayed about it, the more excited I got.
Lets fast forward to team building exercise. At training camp they do team building exercise to get a good feel of who to team up with. The first exercise I was on a all-girls team. During the exercise, I felt off. I wasn’t sure why because I love the girls during the exercise (shout out to my girls on my squad, they are the most beautiful, inspiring, strong group of women I have ever met).
It didn’t feel right. So I thought maybe it’s just an off day. The next day I was placed on a all girls team again for the second round of exercise. I still felt the same thing. Afterwards, I met up with Kristen, she had asked me how I felt about being on an all girls team. I straight out told her that I wanted to try the co-ed team, just to see. I couldn’t believe I was able to say that without hesitation, normally I would be freaking out.
The third round of team building, I was placed on the co-ed. And I absolutely loved it. I even cried (happy tears) afterwards because I knew God was telling me that I was going to be on the co-ed team and needed to trust Him and go into this with an open-mind.
When they announced the teams, and I saw who was on our team, I was overwhelmed with joy and excitement. I thanked God over and over for not listening to me and guiding me to what He wanted, and not what I wanted. Its all about trust!!
So meet my wonderful team, Harmonic Remnant!
Harmonic Remnant: “So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. They’re holding on, not because of what they think they’re going to get out of it, but because they’re convinced of God’s grace and purpose in choosing them. If they were only thinking of their own immediate self-interest, they would have left long ago.” Romans 11:5-6.
After days of team building activities, sessions, one-on-ones, the squad staff came together and put the group of us together. Out of all the 28 squad-mates, this team was formed together by grace. All of us with different testimonies and gifts to bring to offer into this team. All working together in perfect harmony. This is our Harmonic Remnant.
Carlos (bottom left) – He is filled with grace and brings love to the team.
Abby (second left) – She is filled with beauty of boldness and brings intelligence to the team.
James (top left) – He is fill with with a caring/protective heart and brings laughter to the team.
Kirby (third right) – He is filled with a harmonic soul and brings artistry of rhythm to the team.
Hallie (second right) – She is filled with compassion and brings joy to the team.
Allana (first right) – She is filled with a soft heart and brings humbleness to the team.
My prayer for our team is that we are able to come together as one and show God’s love and His grace. Pray that God will do work in us as we are over there and we are able to overcome our challenges, that He guides where our heart desires. Also please pray that we allow ourselves to bring joy, love, intelligence, laughter, humbleness, and rhythm to the people of Asia. Lastly pray that we are able to make someone’s day and really impact them. I am so excited to be doing work with them for the first half of the race and I can’t wait to see what God is going to do to each of my team members.
