“Be still, and know that I am God!”
Palms. 46:10
As I am laying on my hammock, looking at the skies, feeling the breeze of a cool wind, I hear nothing. I don’t hear the wind blowing, I don’t hear the birds chirping, I don’t hear the cars driving by. I hear nothing. Nothing but His presence.
I feel the Lord’s presence better when I don’t hear anything. It’s like the world is standing still while Him and I are moving and enjoying each other’s love.
These are the times I know why the Lord gave me an ability to feel and see rather than to hear. It allows me to see things clearly, it allows me to be still and hear Him in silence.
All of the things that I have been through growing up – getting made fun of because of my speech/hearing problems, having to pay thousands of dollars for the hearing aids/batteries/fm systems, having to always feel left out during group talks, going to hours of speech therapy, having to work extra hard in school, etc – it was all worth it. Because today, I can hear His words in silence and feel his presence. It’s beautiful and the most peaceful thing to experience.
Some of you all may not understand, but I enjoy not being able to hear. I learn so much from the Almighty God. I am able to rely on Him through silence. I am able to praise Him through silence. I am able to feel His love through silence. For the first time in a long time, I’m in love with who I am and love that the Lord gave me the ability to feel and see rather than hear.
I want you to challenge yourself. I want you to feel His presence and hear His words through silence. Go buy yourself an ear defender or ear muffs. Once you do that, go to your “spot” whether that is sitting by the water, sitting in the hammock, or taking a long hike through the woods, use the ear defender/muffs and experience the silence. Feel the breeze of the wind, see God’s beautiful creation with your eyes. Feel His love. Hear His words.
The silence is a holy place, a place of stillness and peace. It is not far away. It is right where you are now. It is right where you are whenever you shut the doors of your senses, still the importuning of your thoughts, and turn to God. Deeper is the silence where you commune with God.
