So Saturday afternoon after the
park event with the kids we were supposed to have free time to rest and relax
but a Pastor from the community was handing out clothes to the community and
needed help so we rallied up our strength and left, (to be honest, I wasn’t
looking forward to standing behind a table and handing out clothes). Upon arrival we met Pastor Willie and saw a
garage open with clothes waist deep completely filled from front to back. We were handing out these clothes to anyone
who wanted some. So we organized and set
up a tent in the yard and put tarps on the ground and threw clothes on the
ground for people to rifle through and grab whatever they needed, as well as
the rest of the garage being open for the public. It wasn’t until after we were all done and
putting things away did I realize that this was the Pastors house that we were
doing all this at.
During
the course of the evening it occurred to me as we were taking clothes out of
the garage and putting them in the yard that we were actually on the World Race. It was as if all the movies I have seen prior
to leaving on the Race was actually happening in my own life right before my
very eyes. Our 2 teams were working
together as well as people from the local church, there was a man on a loud
speaker announcing that there was a free clothing give away, there was Christian
music playing through some speakers on the ground, children were jumping in and
out of the huge pile of clothes as if they were swimming, women were handing
their babies to neighbors so that they could find clothes for their child, it
was an absolutely beautiful event.
What
touched me the most was when I was taking a break from playing round after
round of rock, paper, scissors and running kids around, I mentioned to a kid
who wanted to play that I needed a break, I was hot and a little tired and so
he left. But a few moments later I felt
a tug on my shirt and this same 9 year old boy who wanted to play, had in his
hands a bag of water for me to drink (yes, they have closed bags of water they
sell here in Guatemala, so I felt comfortable drinking clean water). Here I was tired and hot and needing a break
from ministering and a 9 year old boy ministers to me by giving me water. God is so big and loves His children both
young and old. Thank you God for
changing my attitude and allowing me to see your Kingdom in a most tangible
way.
