So Yeah, I’m not really sure how to begin all of this. First of all Praise God that me and the rest
of the team leaders and squad leaders made it here safely to Guatemala. We arrived just this morning into Guatemala
City from El Salvador. Upon arrival we were greeted by a man holding a sign
that said World Race and the 15 of us piled into two vans and drove to Antigua,
Guatemala and are staying in a hostel for the next few days as we eagerly await
the arrival of the rest of the team and prepare/debrief what the next few
months are going to look like and again build team unity.
Upon arrival at the hostel we got familiar with our
surroundings and headed out to grab a bite to eat atPollo Campero. What excellent service, I was expecting to be
like a KFC where we order our food and wait at the counter instead it was more
like a Pizza Hut where they took our order and waited on us. Upon getting our food, some of the team
members ordered pizza and when they started bringing out their orders there was
way more pizza than they had ordered. We
were like OH NO did we accidentally order too much, but fortunately one of the girls
speaks Spanish well and she talked to them real quickly only to find out that
it was a deal of buy one and get one free, it was a crazy change of like OH
crap we messed up to THAT’S AWESOME, so we had food even to take back with us
to the hostel. Praise God for small
little surprises!!
We got back to our hostel in the early afternoon so that we
could rest for the afternoon, its amazing what traveling does to your body and
how incredibly tired you get from just sitting in busses and planes all day
long. P.S. if you ever fly
internationally, fly with TACA, they have great food, I was awoken from
sleeping through the night to a very sweet stewardess and an even sweeter smell
of pancakes and apple pie. I have never received
any sort of food like that flying with American airliners. So anyways after an afternoon of rest we went
back out again to go to the market and pick up food for the next few days. We broke into teams of dinner, breakfast and
lunch and each team was responsible for organizing their course. I absolutely loved walking through the market
and attempting to talk a bit to the people. I only took 2 years of Spanish in high school and brought a Spanish-English
translation book which I have been gazing at every so often.
We got back relatively early from the market to start
boiling water since we dare not drink the water straight from the tap, so that
we could cook our supper which consisted of a rice and noodle soup with bread
and homemade guacamole. After a fabulous
dinner we gathered around and talked a little of the next few days and of
business matter only to play a game later on in the night. Now its near 11 and I am exhausted but am
excited beyond words can possibly do justice for. What a great team God has put together,
brothers and sisters who are sold out to the calling of Christ and His Kingdom
and will stop it nothing to see it to the end. These are the people I will spend the next 11 months with in intense
non-stop community. What a year it
shall be.
