So it is Halloween night and I am sitting at the Starbucks on Balboa Island in Newport Beach watching all the kids go by in their little costumes. I could care less for this holiday really. I knew what is was about since I was a kid and never really got into it… except for the candy. I am a designated taxi driver tonight though. I will at some point be picking up some friends who will be drinking excessively. I’d rather them have a ride back safe then not.
I wanted to update you guys on where I am at. First off and foremost. The training camp in Gainesville was absolutely incredible. Words cannot express just how close our groups have become. There is a total of 115 people going but due to the logistics and the ability to stay in a smaller tighter community, they split the group into 2 squads – M Squad and N Squad (I am in N). And in the week and a half we were together we formed and created a bond. A special relationship that few get to see or understand. I will know and love and be by these people for the rest of my life! And in the days after camp there has been a reassurance of just how tight we are.
I am so happy to be a part of something like this you don’t even know. The picture above was taken the night before we all flew back to our respective residences. The smiles and emotions here don’t show the true endeavoring spirit of this 3 score deep crew [score = 20 … remember Abe Lincoln?] So we have been able to keep in contact via Facebook, email, blog, text, and phone. As of today I believe we have about 65 days till departure to New Zealand. I can’t wait!!
The above picture is our small group. GLO which stands for Gods Love Overflowing. This small group of 7 people will be my family for the next year.
Here is my good buddy Brian and I collaborating on a shelter build for 60 people.
Freezing cold morning. Grant devised a plan and it worked!
So lastly and not the least important is FUND RAISING. This has become an exciting part of this trip. Believe it or not but I was extremely apprehensive about asking for money. But the tides have turned. I always believed that when I sit in front of a group and present what I am about to embark on, that I was the one that was having to learn a little something. But I had no idea how much of an impact I have by simply doing what I am doing. So I am excited to share where ever I go now because I find that people are prompted to seriously consider their walk in life and ask some serious questions which is awesome!
So as of today – October 31st 2009 I have under $1,000 in my account! I have to get over $16,500 to get everything I need. And without a shadow of a doubt I am completely confident in God that He will provide. Not of ounce of doubt I tell you. He had done some amazing things in my life this year and there is a reason I am going on this trip. So I know he will provide.

We had a day of ministry walking through what is known as little Mexico. While bearing the rain we found a wire with a number of shoes on them. Classic. As you can see by the white bag we asked a local woman for some trash bags and we cleaned up the streets while stopping at different houses to talk and pray with people.
The last day we were in GA we had a chance to visit 5 points in downtown Atlanta with some fellow teammates.
Until next time! God bless!
