As I sit in the airport waiting for my flight to training camp, my mind is going a million different directions. This morning I put on my cap and gown, and graduated from Drake University. I then moved out of my apartment I have lived in the past 2 years, said goodbye to 20 family members and amazing friends, and headed off to the airport. In just a few hours, I will be meeting my new family- the amazing S Squad, in Georgia for training camp!
As I was sitting in the rows of the graduating seniors this morning, I remembered to take a look around and try and soak up the very last moments of my college experience. The past four years have been the most amazing years of my life. I have met people that have changed my life and I have learned so much about myself, and the world around me. The past four years have made me realize who I want to be and have given me the confidence to follow my dreams- which as it turns out, is going around the world.
I gotta say, I am a little nervous for the upcoming week. Coming a day late will be a bit difficult but I know that I will have open and welcoming arms as I arrive. I find myself being nervous of the unknown and of the uncertainty of it all. But I am also excited to meet the people I will be spending the next year with.
The last semester of college has flown on by- I feel as if I just moved into the freshman dorms a few weeks ago and now four years have passed. I feel as if my life has been on fast-forward the past semester and have found myself wishing that there were more hours in the day. In the past semester, I have had some of the best times of college with the most amazing people. Although I have hardly found time to sometimes eat, it has been a great semester. I have seen more of Des Moines than I ever have and have enjoyed every day of this crazy senior year. Drake has truly been amazing, but I am now excited to have time to prepare for the race. I think it’s about time to start my next adventure.
So as one chapter of my life ends, and the other quickly begins, and I can’t help but be incredibly thankful. Not everyone gets the chance to travel the world after graduation, especially with the biggest and most incredible support system anyone could ever ask for. These past few months of fundraising have been such a humbling experience. It has showed me that people in my life are just as excited for me as I am. I have been blown away by generosity and the willingness to help me as much as possible. So I thank anyone and everyone from the bottom of my heart that has been apart of my support system. Could not have made it this far without you.
