I don't feel like our society operates like it use to; back when men opened doors and gave up seats on the bus. Then again, maybe it's because I was raised in California. I never realized men still did these things until I went to college.
A lot of women like to complain that chivalry has died but I argue that feminism killed it. As women advanced in the workplace and gained more of a place in what was once a man's world, roles started to shift.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's just a difference in how our society operates. Chivalry is dead where I grew up (in California) but I'm learning that it still exists in other parts of the country.
In college I had a few guy friends who would insist on taking bags and opening doors. Even if they were walking behind my friend and I, they would scream "Don't touch the door!" it was funny to me but it gave me a new appreciation for guys that still hold these values.
