One week until I wave farewell to Pennsylvania for nine whole months.

I’m equally ecstatic and petrified.

Some days I jump from bed and go through my pictures from Kenya, with all of the super cute, smiling children’s faces. Looking at them makes me think about how I’m going to want to adopt every little kid I make eye contact with on the trip.

While other days, I cherish every cup of coffee, thinking how it’s going to be my last for nine months. Better enjoy it now.

It will be nine months of simple living,

bucket showers and barefeet and backpacking.

It’s going to be new and unfamiliar, almost a year of being outside of my comfort zone.

Thankfully, ‘outside of your comfort zone’ is where God waits for you.

When things get rough and nothing goes as planned, all you really can do is pray.

I want that to be my everyday life – to rely on God always,

not to just ask Him to be there when things go wrong.

That’s what I want this year to be.
