My name is Glenn Pickens.
I am 23, soon to be 24 in July. I was born in California near San Francisco but have lived in Georgia
since I was one. I graduated from
Kennesaw State University December 2010 with a degree in Political Science and a
minor in Chemistry. I’m not sure exactly
what I want to do with that but one day I think I’ll figure it out. College was a great time, but filled with so many
highs and lows. During that time God
definitely began shaping me into the person I am now.
I grew up in a Christian family. Growing up I went to church multiple times a
week. But still God never seemed
important to me. I lived the life I wanted. I prayed when I wanted a good grade on a test
or paper and I would pray my problems away….I guess you could say I lived the
life of most American Christians. About
two years ago, my junior year of college, I was ready for something
different. I was miserable living my own
life. I wanted a change and a new
adventure. So I packed my suitcase and
moved out to Colorado for a semester.
I went to the Focus on the Family Institute in Colorado
Springs spring 2009. It was very
different compared to my previous semester. I found the adventure I was looking for. I climbed a 14er, I went snowboarding and skiing, I went snowshoeing on
a glacier, I ran, I mountain biked weekly, I even made a weekend trip to
mountain bike all around Moab, UT, I did everything in that semester that I would
have never dreamed of doing back home. It was great. But most importantly
I found God in the Rockies. There He
broke me and showed me who I was in Him. Being a Christian didn’t mean I had to follow all these rules that would
make me acceptable for God. He died for
me no matter how messed up I was or could ever be. Being a Christian is a relationship, and from
there God will mold you and shape you to the person you are to become. That semester God also brought some
incredible people into my life, who are now some of my best friends. They also helped me to understand what it
meant to follow Christ and were an incredible example for me two years ago and
even now. m.
And now I am proud to say I am a future World Racer and I
cannot wait to see where God will take me over the next 11 months and how He is
going to rock my world! Now July just
needs to get here!!
